LONDON — Fabless chip group Movidia (Dublin, Ireland) , which focuses on mobile video processors optimized for capturing and editing audio and video clips by users on a mobile phone and other consumer electronics equipment, is licensing IP from cores specialist Arasan Chip Systems, Inc.(San Jose, Calif.) for its next generation SoC.
Movidia will use Arasan's Secure Digital SD/SDIO/MMC Host IP and SD/SDIO Combo Device IP.
"With a comprehensive and up to date portfolio of SD IP, Arasan was a natural choice for us to partner with for our SD, SDIO IP requirements for our flagship SoC," said David Moloney, CTO at Movidia.
Moloney added that by licensing the IP , Movidia can focus on its core video technology while leveraging proven SD IP for this critical interface.
Movidia demonstrated its first device, the MA1110, earlier this year. The chip is expected to be in volume production by the end of this year, and, according to Movidia CEO Sean Mitchell, should be available in high-end phones by the middle of 2010.
Arasan's leadership in Secure Digital (SD) controller IP cores dates back to its early engagement with the SD Association and strong relationships with its founding members. Arasan has been an Executive Member of SD Association since 2001.
Arasan provides RTL source code, synthesis scripts, test environment and documentation for its cores, backed by extensive customer support.
