PARIS Once Gilles Delfassy becomes president and CEO of ST-Ericsson, on Nov. 2, Alain Dutheil will return to his previous role as STMicroelectronics' chief operating officer.
From August 2008 to February 2009, Dutheil was CEO of ST-NXP Wireless in addition to his position as COO of STMicroelectronics, focusing exclusively on the joint venture.
ST-Ericsson said Dutheil, who led the company during the crucial period of formation and integration, will work with Delfassy over the coming months to ensure a smooth transition. He also joined the company's board of directors.
Commenting on the announcement, Carl-Henric Svanberg, ex-chairman of ST-Ericsson's board, and Carlo Bozotti, vice-chairman, declared: "Putting together three separate companies to create a formidable wireless business is a challenging undertaking, especially in the current macro-economic environment. Alain has done an extraordinary job in building a strong team and a solid foundation from which ST-Ericsson can grow."
Since 2005, Dutheil has been STMicroelectronics' COO and Vice Chairman of the Corporate Executive Committee, comprised of ten senior corporate executives. Dutheil is also the President of STS Microelectronics, the joint venture formed with Shenzhen SEG HiTech Industrial Co. (SHIC) in the People's Republic of China.
Dutheil started his career in 1969 with Texas Instruments and joined Thomson Semiconducteurs in 1983 as plant manager of the Aix-en Provence factory in France. The French company Thomson Semiconducteurs and the Italian manufacturer SGS Microelettronica then gave birth to the Franco-Italian group SGS-THOMSON Microelectronics (now STMicroelectronics).
Dutheil became corporate vice president of the company in 1989 and combined the positions of director of corporate human resources and director for worldwide back-end manufacturing. In 1994, Dutheil was appointed corporate vice president, Strategic Planning, in addition to his position as corporate vice president, Human Resources.
