The semiconductor IP business model has always been shaky at best. But having struggled for years to prove the value of IP, the question vendors now face is who's going to buy it if no one's building chips?
EMS providers are missing an opportunity to openly address supply chain problems

Late last month, the Electronic Components, Assemblies & Materials Association (ECA) invited several dozen EMS providers to participate in an industry forum aimed at fostering better communication among contract manufacturers. The forum had two goals: to identify inefficiencies within the EMS sector that have compounded supply chain problems for the global electronics market; and to form an industry body that would meet period-ically to draft remedies for these problems.

When the electronics industry finally gets up off the deck, it's apparent that wireless technology--and particularly the convergence of wireless telephony and computing in such products as smartphones--will be in the vanguard of the recovery.

A funny thing happened on the way to the graphics memory market. Graphics cards, where once the price of memory was no object, have suddenly become cost conscious.
