South Korean chip giant Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. has agreed a license deal with the University of Illinois (Urbana, Ill.) allowing it to use deuterium in semiconductor devices. This provides a solution to hot-carrier effects, which are known to cause problems with device reliability, according to the university.
