SAN JOSE -- As expected, Implant Center Inc. (ICI) and Ion Implant Services Inc. (IIS)--two providers of independent ion implantation services for IC makers--here today announced plans to merge and form a new company called Innovion Corp. Additionally, Innovion of San Jose has obtained $21 million in new funding. The funds will be used to complete the company's facilities Gresham, Ore. and Phoenix, Ariz.

Via Technologies Inc., Intel's closest rival in the chipset market, posted a 17.1% gain to $88.2 million from September. Taipei-based Silicon Integrated Systems Corp. said that its sales totaled $29.1 million, rising 11% over the same period. What surprised many analysts is that Via shipped more double-data-rate (DDR) chipsets featuring P4 than expected even though it hasn't received a P4 license from Intel. TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Taiwan's Via Technologies Inc. today announced a new version of its Pentium 4-compliant chip set line, this time with integrated graphics and modular features. The chip set, called the Via ProSavageDDR P4M266, supports PCs based on Intel Corp.'s Pentium 4 processor line. The device supports DDR (double-data-rate) SDRAM memory, AGP 8X, and 2D/3D graphics, based on S3 Graphics' ProSavage8 core. It also handles Ethernet-based protocols and Ultra ATA-133.

SyChip hires TI executive as CEO, gets in funding for integrated RF products

PLANO, Tex. -- SyChip Inc. here today announced it has hired a former executive from Texas Instruments Inc. as its chief executive officer, and the startup said it has closed on the first part of $20 million in funding for radio-frequency ICs and chip-scale modules aimed at wireless Internet appliances.

Nu tvingas företaget att säga upp ytterligare 10 000 anställda då kvartalsrapporten för det tredje kvartalet visar betydligt sämre resultat än förväntat, minus 558 miljoner euro mot förväntade minus 283 miljoner euro. Under samma period i fjol var vinsten 297 miljoner euro.
