Infineon Technologies AG said that samples of 256-Mbit DRAMs made using its 0.11-micron manufacturing process have been approved by Intel and also delivered to other strategic partners. The smaller structures provide a production cost advantage per chip of around 30 percent compared to the 0.14-micron process, the company said.

Infineon said today (April 29, 2003) it has begun to examine sites outside Germany that could host its headquarters. Sites in Asia, the U.S. and Europe are under consideration, the company said, which added that it would open a U.S. east coast expansion site. Infineon also announced that it intends to cut 900 jobs and move control of its automotive and industrial electronics group to Austria.

Under första kvartalet i år sjönk Ericssons försäljning med 30 procent och landade på knappt 26 miljarder kronor. Förlusterna blev 6 miljarder. Ökenvandringen fortsätter alltså och ledningen har beslutat att fram till slutet av 2004 minska personalen med ytterligare 7000 personer till total 47 000.

Mindre fakturering, lägre orderingång, större förlust, ytterligare 7000 människor sparkas och inga tecken på vändning. Det är i korthet Ericssons första kvartalsrapport 2003. Inte särskilt lysande kan man tycka, ändå steg Ericssonaktien med 17-18 procent under förmiddagen. Det är i blixtbelysning det man kan kalla marknadens logik. Om ledningen bara visar prov på handlingskraft så spelar det inte så stor roll hur det verkligen går för företaget ifråga.
