Slow growth predicted for UK PCB market

The market for printed circuit boards in the UK increased overall between 1998-2002 with annual sales last year of £862.1m, according to research from Market and Business Development (MBD) Ltd. Despite the market declining 18 percent between 2000/01 with sales of £711.0m, it represents an increase of almost 30 percent compared to the market value during 1998 of £550m.

United Microelectronics Corp. said Tuesday (April 1, 2003) that its most advanced manufacturing lines at its 8-inch wafer plants are running at full capacity, and that this has prompted the company to activate production at a 300-mm wafer fab, according to a Dow Jones report.

NEC Electronics Corp cherche un acheteur pour son usine de plaquettes, implantée il y a six ans à Livingston, en Ecosse. Initialement, l'usine a été créée pour fabriquer des DRAM (Dynamic Random Access Memory) mais, il y a deux ans, NEC a annoncé un projet visant à remplacer la fabrication de DRAM par celle de systèmes sur une puce et de circuits intégrés logiques.

NEC Electronics Corp. is attempting to find a buyer for its six-year-old wafer fab in Livingston, Scotland. The fab was originally built to produce DRAMs, but two years ago NEC announced plans to end DRAM production there and instead make system-on-a-chip and logic ICs.

Idén med en bärbar dator är att man skall kunna använda den varsomhelst med tillgång till samma funktioner som en fast dator.
Telias projekt HomeRun, som innebär att användaren av en bärbar dator skall kunna koppla upp sig trådlöst via en lokal hotspot (trådlös accesspunkt), får nu förnyad fart i och med ett samarbete med Intel Centrino.
Hitachi, Mitsubishi complete merger of chip operations

Japan's Hitachi Ltd. and Mitsubishi Electric Corp. today (March 31) consummated their agreement to merge their chip-making operations, creating the world's third-largest semiconductor supplier and bumping Motorola Inc. from its position as the world's leading supplier of microcontrollers.
