At its summer press event in New York City held on the evening of June 28, Toshiba America Consumer Products, L.L.C. announced the that it has discontinued all rear projection televisions in favor of flat-panel displays. Toshiba also announced the availability of its 46", 47" and 52" REGZA LCD TVs as well as the upcoming availability of its largest ever LCD TV, a 57" Cinema Series model.

European chipmaker STMicroelectronics NV and the French Atomic Energy Agency (CEA) have concluded a collaboration agreement on the development of miniaturized energy sources solutions. Two joint laboratories will be established in Tours and in Grenoble, France, so as to conduct advanced research in solid-state microbatteries and microfuel cells for clean energy generation.

The global semiconductor contract assembly and test services (SATS) market grew by 26.5 percent in 2006 and reached $19.2 billion according to Gartner, Inc. Outsourcing's share rose to 43.5 percent of the total semiconductor packaging market.
