J.W. Miller's new low loss series of high power toroid inductors is the company's first standard product offering to incorporate Magnetic Inc.'s Kool Mμ ferrous alloy powder core. Although typically more expensive than powder iron cores, they offer a key advantage over these lower cost materials by preventing the distributed air gap cores from getting too hot in high frequency applications.

Targeting CMOS camera applications, automotive night vision and sensor systems, Vishay Intertechnology's two new infrared (IR) emitters are optimized with an 850-nm wavelength in comparison with industry standard 870-nm emitters to improve optical efficiency in these types of applications. Both high-speed, high-radiant power devices provide a low 1.8-volt maximum forward voltage and a 20 nanosecond rise time.

Ltd. achieved a net income of NT$23.41 billion (about US$670 million) on record-setting revenue of NT$64.87 billion (about US$1.91 billion) in the quarter ended June 30, 2004, the company said Thursday (July 29). The company forecast sales revenue would increase in the third quarter.

Astec Power's (Emerson Network Power) APA18 is a 75-watt point-of-load (POL) converter that's suited to restrictive space requirements. The DC/DC converter, in a single-in-line package (SIP, 2-by-0.5-by-0.4 inches), delivers 18 amps at 0.75 to 5.5 volts from a 10-14 volt input for a wide range of tasks ranging from telecom to instrumentation. It sports an efficiency as high as 92 percent.

Using a new two-step design, Elma Electronic's new AdvancedTCA handles provide a fail-safe method for the insertion and removal of ATCA boards by separating the locking/switching mechanism from the extraction function. In some cases, with a one-step process, it causes the handles to disengage too quickly, or makes it difficult to plug the ATCA boards back into the chassis, said the company.
