With a low-voltage operating range of 1.65V to 1.95V, Atmel's 8-Mbit serial flash operates at the same voltage range as many current and upcoming sub-90nm ASICs and processors/controllers, which allows system designers to finally create applications that can use a single supply voltage for all components in the system while also saving a significant amount of cost.

The three-month moving average of global chip sales for July has come in at $22.1 billion, up 7.2 percent year-on-year from $20.6 billion in July 2007, according to Bruce Diesen, analyst at Carnegie Research. However, this implies that actual global chip sales in July 2008 came in at $20.54 billion, only 1.3 percent up on the actual sales of $20.28 billion recorded for July 2007.

Europe's venture capital industry recorded 167 deals in the second quarter, the lowest quarterly total in at least nine years. The 858 million euro (about $1.26 billion) invested, was 35 percent drop from the 1.33 billion euro (about $1.95 billion) invested in 286 deals over the same period in 2007, according to Dow Jones VentureSource.
