Worldwide shipments of mobile phones beat expectations for the second quarter of this year, according to Strategy Analytics.

SINGAPORE -- Singapore's Chartered Semiconductor Manufacturing Pte. Ltd. on Sunday reaffirmed its third-quarter earnings guidance, but noted that its sales forecast will be slightly down from the previous quarter. Originally, Chartered said that its sales would be up 5% sequentially from the previous period. But now, the Singaporean foundry giant said that its revenue will be flat to up 5% during the period.
Parthus to disband RF group, cuts jobs

Parthus Technologies plc is disbanding its RF group and has also stopped investing in the development of hardware based security acceleration. The move is being made to try and improve the London-listed company's financial performance. The company is expecting to take a charge of $3 million.
