Third party design automation tools typically will lag behind the tools from the company which supports a their new and proprietary technology. Sometimes, we see a coordinated effort to release new technology along with a rollout of third party tool makers, but for the most part, the manufacturers tools precede the third party tools.

It's important to keep an eye on the PLD/FPGA device makers as they introduce new technologies and new parts. Often times, it is their innovations which lead the way. If really good enough, the industry will follow.
