Auto relay cuts size, weight, costs Product News 1/25/2006 Post a comment Fujitsu Components America has released its fourth-generation, ultra-miniature automotive relay for motor applications. The FTR-G1 relay is 28 percent smaller than the previous version, and features a two-piece assembly process to reduce costs.
Power relay switches high voltages Product News 1/19/2006 Post a comment Panasonic Electric Works has introduced a 300-A compact power relay with encapsulated contacts. This 1 Form A relay features a high-voltage switching cutoff of 400 Vdc thanks to a hermetically-sealed construction and magnetic arc motion.
Controller drives piezoelectric motors Product News 1/19/2006 Post a comment New Scale Technologies has introduced a MC-1000 controller for its SQL or SQ-100 series piezoelectric SQUIGGLE motors. This driver incorporates the features of the company's SQ-2000 benchtop power supply/motor controller into a single card that is easily integrated into OEM instruments.
Switch combines two functions Product News 1/19/2006 Post a comment Alps Electric has developed a rotary-type power switch that combines power and mode selection (encoder) functions in a single package for the appliance market.
Minimizing Servoamplifier-Sourced Noise Design How-To 1/17/2006 Post a comment PWM servo amplifiers energize servo motors with current waveforms under control of fast-rise voltage pulses. The faster the rise rate of the drive pulses, the lower the energy dissipation in the servo amplifier's MOSFET or IGBT power semiconductors, and amplifier efficiencies in 95% region become possible. Unfortunately, there's a rise-rate tradeoff: the faster the rise rate, the more likely is the amplifier to source noise currents that interfere with neighboring circuits.
Smart fabric keyboard targets portable devices Product News 1/6/2006 Post a comment Eleksen Ltd. has announced the availability of its ElekTex Smart Fabric wireless keyboard in the United States at CES 2006. Designed for Smart phones, PDAs and handheld devices, the portable and full laptop-sized keyboard supports access to email, document editing, texting and mobile web browsing.
Keyboard/mouse combos feature slim footprint Product News 1/5/2006 Post a comment BenQ has announced the availability of three keyboard-and-mouse desktop companion combos at CES 2006. All three combos - the x730, x805 and Desksaver Companion - offer an optical mouse and a slim-profile keyboard that includes the company's proprietary X-structure key technology for enhanced key stability and reduced typing noise.
Keyboard offers full functionality with 53 keys Product News 1/5/2006 Post a comment New Standard Keyboards (NSK) has introduced a line of patented USB-interface computer keyboards at CES 2006. The 53-key alpha-numeric keyboard is said to offer several advances, and still maintain full functionality, over standard 101-key designs.
What are the engineering and design challenges in creating successful IoT devices? These devices are usually small, resource-constrained electronics designed to sense, collect, send, and/or interpret data. Some of the devices need to be smart enough to act upon data in real time, 24/7. Are the design challenges the same as with embedded systems, but with a little developer- and IT-skills added in? What do engineers need to know? Rick Merritt talks with two experts about the tools and best options for designing IoT devices in 2016. Specifically the guests will discuss sensors, security, and lessons from IoT deployments.
