Optical Network Unit for ATM-Based Passive Optical Networks
Design How-To
12/10/2002   Post a comment
Among the different technologies proposed to solve the existing bottleneck in access networks, fiber-optic transmission has a special importance. Passive Optical Networks (PONs) appear to be among the more attractive architectures to be used in an Optical Access Network (OAN). Cristina Romero and associates present the main guidelines for the design of the Optical Network Unit (ONU) to be installed at the customer premises as required by this type of Fiber To The Home (FTTH) network.
InfiniBand Networks for Enterprise Computing
Design How-To
12/3/2002   Post a comment
InfiniBand networks are emerging as an important technology for server clustering and may form the infrastructure for next-generation enterprise-computing systems. IBM's Dr. Casimer DeCusatis describes how InfiniBand can be used in this environment, including experimental results of a testbed using clustered servers, storage, and peripheral devices.

NEXT UPCOMING BROADCAST
In conjunction with unveiling of EE Times’ Silicon 60 list, journalist & Silicon 60 researcher Peter Clarke hosts a conversation on startups in the electronics industry. One of Silicon Valley's great contributions to the world has been the demonstration of how the application of entrepreneurship and venture capital to electronics and semiconductor hardware can create wealth with developments in semiconductors, displays, design automation, MEMS and across the breadth of hardware developments. But in recent years concerns have been raised that traditional venture capital has turned its back on hardware-related startups in favor of software and Internet applications and services. Panelists from incubators join Peter Clarke in debate.
