High-speed, high-power IR emitters boost optical efficiency

Targeting CMOS camera applications, automotive night vision and sensor systems, Vishay Intertechnology's two new infrared (IR) emitters are optimized with an 850-nm wavelength in comparison with industry standard 870-nm emitters to improve optical efficiency in these types of applications. Both high-speed, high-radiant power devices provide a low 1.8-volt maximum forward voltage and a 20 nanosecond rise time.

Due to customer requests, TT electronics OPTEK Technology is once again supporting the high-reliability market for Hall-effect , magnetoresistive and optoelectronic components. The company is a fully integrated high reliability manufacturer and offers products that can be QCI tested (Groups A, B, C & D) per MIL-PRF-19500 to the methods of MIL-STD-750 and MIL-STD-883. Full assembly and testing are performed in the company's ISO and QS9000 certified Juarez, Mexico facility.

Agilent Technologies introduced a family of 10 Gb/s Ethernet, Fibre Channel, and SONET/SDH fiber optic transceivers for enterprise, storage and metro networks. The 10 Gb XENPAK, X2 and XFP MSA-compliant fiber optic transceivers cover all major physical media device types and link distances, and are hot-pluggable.

Möglicherweise werden schon bald neuartige Leuchtkörper aus quantenmechanischen Elementen anstelle von Leuchtröhren unsere Büros beleuchten. Ein Proof-of-Concept-Experiment am Los Alamos National Laboratory und in den Sandia National Laboratories zeigt, dass so genannte Quantenschächte als Basis für Lichtquellen mit einem Wirkungsgrad von fast 100 Prozent dienen können. Das Labor in Los Alamos untersteht der National Nuclear Security Administration, der US-Behörde für atomare Sicherheit.
