A friend in the UK just emailed me with the URL of a really cool website called I Want One Of Those.com. These folks specialize in "Stuff you don't need . . . but you really, really want!"
For example, I don't actually need a USB-Controlled Desktop Missile Launcher (indeed, I didn't even know such a beast existed until a few moments ago), but now I find I really, really want one! (If nothing else, this goes to show that we can't accuse the folks who run this site of false advertising.)
As the site says, this is the ultimate deterrent against those annoying people who lurk around your desk because they've nothing better to do. The launcher itself consists of a base that holds three foam missiles. This base &ndash, which tilts and rotates – is controlled from your PC via a USB cable. The software running on your PC looks like a radar screen, and you use your mouse and/or keyboard to point and fire the missiles along with appropriate sound effects.
And I thought my USB-driven mini lava lamp was cool! How childish I was, but I'm older, wiser, and much more mature now. So mature, in fact, that I feel I deserve to be rewarded with one of these missile launchers!
