I'm gnashing my teeth and rending my garb, because the Stella Awards about which I recently penned a blog .... turned out to be a spoof!
Well tickle my toes with a hammer! Do you recall my recent blog about the Darwin and Stella Awards? Well, several readers emailed me to point out that the Stella awards I described are actually a spoof – an "urban legend", if you will. A typical message (from a friend) was as follows:
Check out www.snopes.com/legal/lawsuits.asp
Arrggggh. I'd forgotten to check www.snopes.com. This can be an incredibly useful website when one wishes to check the veracity of "urban legends", common fallacies, misinformation, "old wives' tales", strange news stories, rumors, celebrity gossip, and so forth. I will have to chastise myself soundly!
