Well, here we are poised at the beginning of a brand-spanking New Year. The whole of 2009 is stretched out before us just waiting for us to jump in and make the most of it.
Of course part of this is to make our New Year's Resolutions. So, who wants to go first? Who, me? Well, if you insist...
My main goal is to finally get down to the 200 pounds that I've been aiming at ever since my mom visited in the summer of 2008 and told me I'd put on a lot of weight (she said it with love :-)
I was doing so well... I started off at 241.5 pounds and worked my way down to 212, but then I caught the flu just before thanksgiving, so I stopped walking for a few days... but then it started raining ... and then it grew bitterly cold... and what with one thing and another I never started up again.
Coupled with all of the food I munched during the Christmas holidays, I'm back up to 219 pounds ... a thousand curses!
But that's the great thing about a New Year... it's a clean slate just waiting for us to make our mark. In 2008 I walked a total of 600 miles; my goal for 2009 is to walk 1000 miles, which means 3 miles each and every day starting on January 1st.
As part of this, I've given myself three more months to get down to 200 pounds. And when I reach my 200 pound goal, my next challenge is to stop waffling around and to finally master my off-road mountain unicycle. I keep on bouncing back and forth, practicing for a couple of days and then getting distracted... but I've decided that it will be a lot easier to ride when I'm down to my "fighting weight", so that's my plan...
So, 1000 miles, 200 pounds, and 1 unicycle... that should keep me going... let's all meet up again in a year's time to see how well I do.
