Are we moving closer to resembling Star Trek's Borg Collective?
Reading a recent news story posted on Automotive DesignLine about an electronic contact-lens display to convey information to a car's driver got me to thinking (which could be dangerous or whacked out): Are we moving closer to resembling the Borg Collective from Star Trek?
Now I don't know if this has happened to you, but I can be in a store or other public place when someone says something to me. Turning around I start to reply only to find the person talking on a wireless, hands-free cell phone, which often looks like an ear implant or growth. When this first happened, I used to feel like a foolbut then realized it is the user who is more idiotic by acting, to the public, as if he or she (and it is usually a he) has some disorder causing he or she to converse with some imaginary character (i.e. see John Wayne in Blood Alley, "Eh, baby?")
Now with a contact lens providing visual information, along with cell phone audio stimulus for our brains, we can be even more isolated in public or natureand miss more and more of the "human" experience.
