While watching a ballgame the other night, I spotted a stadium ad for General Motors' Volt electric car. GM is using a new logo to promote its e-car: the number 230, representing GM's claim that the Volt, under certain conditions, will get 230 miles per gallon in the city.
The zero in 230 has been replaced by a three-pronged plug outlet in the GM ad. If GM can deliver on its claim, the Volt could be a winner at a time when GM really needs a winner.
If, on the other hand, it turns out to be merely marketing hype, the ad campaign will further undermine the prospects for the Volt, which will cost early adopters a pretty penny.
