I just wanted to check that this type of blog (discussing nitty-gritty details and construction and stuff) is of interest to you ... or would you rather that I talked only about the electronics side of things?

Keeping a sense of proportion

You might want to consder employing the Golden Ratio (1.618 : 1, close enough for government work) in your rectangular layout. Doing so several times would be even cooler.

I'd include a link to the topic, but the comment mechanism doesn't seem to appreciate the idea.

I did wonder about this, but 1.5X gave 5cm, which had it's own attractions LOL

You first select some text in your comment, at which point the link icon (looks like a chain) will become active -- click that icon and a window pops up for you to enter your link.

ALSO -- it's a good idea to select the "Open in New Window" option

@Max I was going to suggest you used one of the usual TV ratios of 4:3 or 16:9 but I think @perl_geek's comment

is spot on - old TVs were't wide enough and new ones (16:9) always look too wide to me.  I did come across the Golden ratio, as the Golden rectangle, years ago and the Wikipedia artilde on it is good (if a little over my head maths-wise :-) :

@David: I think @perl_geek's comment [...] is spot on.

I might have a play around this evening and see what it looks like...
