it didn't even cause a faint upturning of my mouth edging toward a smile.

In that case, you need a bagel.

Being British, you will work a full day on July 4. They rest of os will have an hour or two off and call it a holiday.

@Max wrote Just today I had "sprout surprise"* for lunch

You should never admit that you took the time to have lunch. How career limiting.

@Maxthemagnificent: You're joking ... acute appendicitis ... it's a classic ... I'm still laughing ... you'll be telling it yourself before the day is out :-)

@Wnderer: Dashiki. But I guess an Hawaiian shirt will do in a pinch.

Oooh -- I like Dashikis -- but I don't think they carry them down at my local Walmart :-)

@Max What's the official dress code for this period between the summer solstice and the aphelion?

@Wnderer: And we are in that mystical period between the summer solstice and the aphelion (July 3rd).

I was thinking the aphelion was July 4th, but that's in England -- they are 6 hours ahead of us, so although it happens on July 4 there, it's still July 3 here in the USA.

What's the official dress code for this period between the summer solstice and the aphelion? I hope it involves Hawaiian shirts, otherwise I'm SOL (sadly out of luck :-)
