@Max: That's where my brilliant idea comes in -- we (you) make each black square a different variation on an overall theme -- similarly for the white squares -- so each one is unique -- hence no repitition -- problem solved! (you're welcome :-)

Thanks !

@Steve: I would love to make a chess table or something else to that standard but sorry to say I don't think I could survive the repetition.

@Steve: I don't like to blow my own trumpet

I didn't know you played the trumpet -- so if you don't like blowing your own, whose do you blow?

@ Max: I've seen your work -- I know you can do it -- and you don't need a CNC machine -- if I had your skills I'd be thinking about building my own chess table AND all the pieces.....

Thanks for the vote of confidence in me.

I'm a modest fellow as you know and I don't like to blow my own trumpet to often, but yes I do have some woodworking skills, mainly in the wood turning arena... and yes I have produced some nice stuff, case in point is my solitaire table you saw the pictures of recently. Trouble is I get board with repetition, which is why my solitaire table only has 7 balls; I got fed up of making them.

Part of my day job in IT is to use scripting to automate repetitive tasks. I find the act of scripting a task far more pleasurable. During the making of my cube, the jig making was more fun than using the jigs themselves.

I would love to make a chess table or something else to that standard but sorry to say I don't think I could survive the repetition.

@Steve: The item that has really blown me away is the Chess Table [...] if I were ever going to do something like this I would have to invest in some CNC technology to assist in all the repetitive tasks, and I bet it wouldn't look half as good this guy's efforts.

I have to say I did see an example of the Face Hacking not so long ago on a UK TV show called Click (BBC's flagship technology programme) but the example shown here is by far the best I have seen yet, and I have to say it is absolutely amazing.

The item that has really blown me away is the Chess Table. This guy must have patients beyond anything most could endure. The attention to detail and the skill is incredible, skills I can only dream of. If I were ever going to do something like this I would have to invest in some CNC technology to assist in all the repetitive tasks, and I bet it wouldn't look half as good this guy's efforts.

I really appreciate high quality hand crafted items and some time last year I went to hand crafted furniture exhibition. The work I viewed there also blew me away. There was allsorts there from chairs, tables, cabinets, even musical instruments, all different and all built by hand to incredible standards, just like this chess table.

I really do appreciate the time and effort these craftsmen (and women) put into their work. It must be very rewarding when they complete said work and look back at what they achieved. Most were only to eager to share in how they did it.

If I could wind back time knowing what I know now, a cabinetmaker would be something I would consider taking up as a profession. It has to be much more rewarding than working in IT.

Tanks for bringing this to our attention Max.

Of all the exhibits in the Pre-Apocalypse Era Museum, Breek was always in awe of the unearthed details and true-to-scale reproduction of a technological creation space that the long gone humans had once inhabited.
