Hi Max,

you might have thought about it already, but what about making the frontend flexible to connect it with this:

Crun: Stop doing that, Eccles. Now just step inside this tiger.

Eccles: Okay.

F.X.: (tiger growl)

Eccles: (gulps) echo effect: Oh, it's dark in this tiger. Wonder where the light switch is?

Crun: Modern Eccles, poor ignorant fellow that he is, doesn't know that this is only eighteen thirty, and the elecetric [sic] lighting inside tigers has not been invented yet.

@David: ...He likes the Goon Show...

Ah, who could forget such banter as:

BLUEBOTTLE: You turn the knob on your side.

ECCLES: I haven't got a knob on my side.

BLUEBOTTLE: On the door!

Yeah, Elizabeth, I also have a bad feeling when I read about the next big thing from Max, because it keeps my head spinning way too long. I already proposed in the last blog's comment, that he should start a Maker Lab. The kids and people in his area will love him for that.

I'm happy that there is another supporter of an analog solution, but I'm also also interested to see, how Max is going to solve all the wiring and soldering – I can already smell the burned fingers and can hear his yelling, yeah.

Good luck, cheers, Tobias

I'm not an analog man -- so I look forward to hearing your thoughts (and experimental results) on this approach

I'm still planning on prototyping using Arduino Nanos -- but I'm not ruling out a migration to anything...

I had also thought about Silego's offerings but the problem with their parts is that they are TOO small to do any prototyping with. In the mean time, I'm looking at an analog soltuion using op-amps and/or comparitors although Cypress PSoC has some possibilities (along with the ATTiny but I haven't looked into it's analog capabilities)

Doing the neuron path I/O using analog has great appeal for reducing the pin and wire count so I'm highly inclined toward that approach.

I suspect I know what is likely to occupy at least some of my limited spare time for the next few weeks...

@antedeluvian: ...Silego's offerings may do the job...

That's certainly a thought if we opt for the pseudo-analog route proposed by Markkk -- plus the latest Silego offerings contain an asynchronous state machine and support I2C -- hmmm...

In fact I'll be seeing the folks from Silego at ESC Silicon Valley next week -- plus I'll be meetinu up with Duane -- lots to talk about :-)
