Engineers have become the whipping boy, and they've done it to themselves, a reader writes.
A sad state of affairs. I have been writing letters to many publications for YEARS on these subjects, but to see the letter where it says we as engineers cannot lobby hit home. Yes, so true!
We WILLINGLY give it away. When a teacher goes on strike, others whine and complain about the kids. The fact is, the teachers are employees and teaching is a JOB. We engineers have been beat down for a long time, and we do it to ourselves.
We have become the replaceable whipping boy. Sadly, I knew once 911 ruined almost everything that the MBAs would somehow try to circumvent the system. Back in the boom years they, the MBAs, were being pumped out by the truckload with poor management and professional skills but with of course the coveted MBA degree. The PUSH to really move offshore came from them and the rest is history. It's like in physics: an object in motion tends to stay in motion. Well, our motion is a quick boat to China.
