We've been hearing about the two standards merging since May and now it looks like the Bluetooth SIG's updated technology roadmap has exactly that in mind. By the third quarter of 2007 Bluetooth should be quite a bit down the road toward prototype UWB-compatible cores.
It's a no-brainer for BT because hitching its wagon to the UWB rising star will add a few hundred megabits per second to BT's 2.1 Mb/s bandwidth.
The problem with any BT-UWB merger timeline, of course, is that the two competing UWB standards groups (the WiMedia Alliance
WiMedia Alliance and the UWB Forum) still haven't decided on a common standard.
