UWB radio specs at first glance make it look like implementation is as simple as picking up sticks because of the lack of requirements for frequency translation and filtering. Actually, UWB's radio requirements are rigorous at best and traumatic at worst.
Bandwidths for UWB are too wide for hardware-based SAW correlators, for example, and pilot and sync channels are nowhere to be found. Synchronization must be performed at the receiver using digital signal processing procedures.
