Wow. No sooner do I blog that Zensys is for sale and ZAPIntel Capital invests in the company. (See Zensys for sale?.)
I'm sure the Seigneurs of Santa Clara have had their eye on Z-Wave for awhile so I'm not going to ask for a finders fee. Fact is, Intel seems to be interested in Zensys for home automation and home automation alone.
Curt Nichols, vice president of Intel Capital and managing director of its Digital Home Fund told EE Times: "This is our first investment in home control and automation. Its time has come; the market is ready."
See Intel backs Z-Wave in wireless home automation bid for the details.
The development makes a lot of sense for Intel, which probably likes the idea of a proprietary home network to work in tandem with its Viiv entertainment platform. Won't be too long before we see home networking (Z-Wave derivative) IP in Intel processors.
Almost makes one want to invest in Zensys, huh? Good luck.
