In a world of specialists, few professions are more specialized than engineering.
More often than not, EEs who are quite creative and yearn to be inventors spend days on end designing some part of a system or chip. It can be challenging work but it is seldom as satisfying as being the creative force behind a whole system.
That's why Chumby is so special. Open, extensible and eminently hackable, Chumby might be viewed as a stem cell of an electronic appliance. It can be reinvented into a vast number of useful and very personal appliances.
When I reviewed the device and its manufacturer, Chumby Industries, (Chumby: Open and hackable), I was impressed by the concept as much as the technology.
Here's an opportunity to build something that could find a big marketor just a market if one if it's youwith open source building blocks.
