Here's my wish list for the industry groups that represent some of the primary technologies covered by Wirelessnetdesignline.com
The time has come again to wish one and all a happy holiday season and prosperous New Year.
Since WirelessNetDesignline primarily tracks five technologiesBluetooth, UWB, WLAN, WiMAX and ZigBeeI have some special wishes to each of the industry groups representing those technologies.
For the WiMedia Alliance and its flavor of UWB, I wish a successful CES 2008, the quick resolution of its technology's bandwidth issues, and an uneventful migration to higher frequencies (that last one might be hard to come by.)
For the Bluetooth SIG, I wish continued success in the headset market, better penetration into other markets that are always being talked about but never seem to happen, and the wisdom to make the right choice for its next-generation, higher-frequency technology partner.
For the WiMAX Forum and its members, I wish a smooth product rollout in 2008 and a resolution to the questions of just exactly where this technology fits in.
For the Wi-Fi Alliance I wish continued success and a 1 Gbit/s standard sooner rather than later.
For the ZigBee Alliance, I wish fewer proprietary competitors, a clearer understanding among design engineer about where this standard is headed, and a steep ramp of design-ins.
For all the competitors of these technologies and all wireless technologies in general, I have a single wish: That the best technology for the application will be adopted.
