It's nice to see both ST Micro and Intel offering Wi-MAX/Wi-Fi designs.
Well, it's finally starting to happen in a big way, except that the announcements are not product announcements but technology demonstrations.
Granted, the time between presenting a paper at ISSCC and fielding a semiconductor product based on this supposedly into-the-future technology is asymptotically approaching a matter of days. That's just another reminder of how much marketing has become part of engineering.
But it is nice to see both ST Micro and Intel offering Wi-MAX/Wi-Fi designs.
I think that market timing will delay the introduction of the designs with a WiMAX component. It may not appear that way to the average technology watcher, but the lack of WiMAX infrastructure has to affect the growth path of the chips.
