The Wi-Fi Alliance recently started testing NFC (Near Field Communication) technology in the hope that it will make network configuration easier.
NFC is on a roll. The Bluetooth SIG has also expressed interest as has the WiMedia Alliance. All because NFC makes configuration so much easier.
A user simply touches a card or token to an access point then to the client deice and NFC connect them.
NFC is particularly useful when you want to connect cameras, gaming devices, and other consumer electronics that don't have a keyboard. It's already in mobile phones and you're going to see it in a lot of other wireless stuff sooner rather than later.
