Great article. I live in Japan and have loved our new Blu-Ray recorder. It's a fantastic home device. Also interesting is that the vast majority of homes and apartments here don't need a STB - for some reason the STB function can be done within the TV tuners here. One less unnecessary device, and not having to pay for an STB frees up a lot of homes to go buy the much more useful DVD recorder. So basically, since there's no other device to put a hard drive in people's homes, the DVD player almost by default had to be the place to put it.
