Unlike most alliances that are short-term in nature, designed to bolster the launch of a unique technology or segment, the Ethernet Alliance has long-term goals. See Group's aim: Unify Ethernet speeds, apps.
The Alliance intends to be the "voice" of the 802 Ethernet industry--representing the spectrum of IEEE 802 Ethernet technologies--and be aggressive in doing so. The Alliance sees its role as speeding acceptance, supporting the definition and development of new Ethernet technologies, and education.
For 2006, the group is focusing on Ethernet technology incubation, interoperability demos, and education. Already started is the incubation process for 100 Gig Ethernet; efforts to demo 10GBASE-T, 10GBASE-LRM, and backplane Ethernet interoperability; and the creation of a stable of Ethernet speakers.
Their home is Ethernet Alliance. Looks like good stuff--go visit.
