I confess, I used to love Star Trek. I didn't go so far as to go to the conventions or dress the part (although I did have one of those little beeper noise pins).

Here's something right out of the reruns. Physicists in Denmark have teleported information from light to matter bringing quantum communication and computing closer to reality. Professor Eugene Polzik of the Niels Bohr Institute at Copenhagen University in Denmark have made a breakthrough by using both light and matter.
"It is one step further because for the first time it involves teleportation between light and matter, two different objects. One is the carrier of information and the other one is the storage medium," said Polzik in an interview. An atomic object and information were teleported a half meter. Polzik attributes the success over longer distances to light as the carrier.
I think I'm going to watch those reruns again to see what will come true next. Let's see, my teleport beeper should be in a drawer here somewhere
