Nine companies joined forces including Ericsson, Matsushita, Panasonic, Philips, Samsung, Siemens AG, Sony, AT&T, Telecom Italia, and France Telecom, to set a single global standard for IPTV.
The group is looking for members that want to actively contribute to specification development. Instituting a fast track, the forum intends to hammer out technology requirements by September of 2007, and have an initial set of specs by the end of the year.
The nine indicated that they support IMS and DLNA. Their goal is to ensure all IPTV systems work together for the benefit of the user and the technology companies using the systems.
So where is Microsoft and Alcatel-Lucent?
