It's not inconceivable to have up to 10 independent radios in a handset. When I first heard this, I didn't believe it either. But here's the list:
- Wireless LAN
- Ultra Wideband (UWB)
- DVH-H (or some other television variant)
- Near-field communications
Looking at the list, there are probably two or three that would never coexist. But even so, you still could be looking at having to design in seven or eight radios. Sounds like an RFI nightmare, doesn't it?
The only salvation I can offer is that we'll continue to run articles that help solve these multi-radio integration problems. If you've got any suggestions, please go to our Forums section (www.mobilehandsetdesignline.com/forums)and help out your fellow engineers.
