Ericsson has signed up to become part of the PMBus organization. What's the PMBus organization, you ask? According to its charter, the PMBus is "an open-standard digital power management protocol that facilitates communication with a power converter or other device by fully defining the transport and physical interface, and the command language needed to accomplish this."
Under the auspices of the System Management Interface Forum (SMIF), the PMBus protocol initiative was created in last October when Artesyn Technologies, Astec Power, and six top semiconductor makers recognized the need for an all-digital power management solution. The organization now carries 19 members.
