We've heard that the sub-$20 handset was just around the corner for a while now. Well, it looks like we've turned that corner, as TTPCom has released a reference design that allows phone makers to hit that price point. The reference design includes the company's AJAR ULC application suite, protocol software, and CBEMacro modem technology.
Market makers have declared that reaching the sub-$20 plateau is essential to gain access to the highly populated, but lower income areas of China and India. These regions potentially represent hundreds of millions of units. While the margins may be slim, those are numbers that have to make anyone involved in the supply chain think twice about entering this market. Thanks to TTPCom, it just got a little easier.
