Quite a few folks have emailed me to say that they've seen one or more of these courses and enjoyed them -- I've been really busy for the last few days and have had no time free, but I should be able to start watching the first course (the history of language) tomorrow evening ... watch this space...

As another who predates most technology as we know it, this took me back to the other end of my life. When I was in early high school, I would get up at 6:00 AM to watch math and physics lectures on "Continental Classroom". These DVD's you mention sound fascinating - I'll have to look into them myself! Dave

You can't trust that guy in the office next door (you should hear all of the nasty things he says about you :-)

Well, in that case ... if it's good enough for Dictionary.com it's certainly good enough for me and you won't find me whinging (or whingeing) about it :-)

Good input -- I hadn't thought of that -- I must admit that I do like the DVD version of The Great Courses (at least what I've seen thus far) -- you get video of the professor giving the lectures plus graphics and stuff. Thus far I have to say that everything has been very professionally done and presented -- it's like watching a program on the Discovery Channel.

These prices were in a catalog that arrived in the post -- the catalog says that the sale ends on 17 Feb 2011 -- all I did was call the number in the catalog (1-800-832-2412). The Joy of Math is course number 1411 ($39.95). The Art of Critical Decision Making is course number 5932 (also $39.95).

Hi David -- I'm up to my ears in alligators fighting fires without a paddle at the moment (I never metaphor I didn't like :-) But I'll bounce over to take a look as soon as a get a free moment -- cheers -- Max
