Signal Integrity Issues and Printed Circuit Board Design

Following on the success of the last book that I excerpted in the Design Column of the EDA Designline, I have another book for you. This one is targeting PCB designers as the primary market, but there is a lot of stuff in this book that relates just as much to chip design. It is an introductory book and many not delve into some of the issues as much as more experienced designers may like, but at the same time, that is the beauty of this book – it can be understood by people like me, for whom this is not my area of expertise. Two chapters will be excerpted over time and this post will contain links to them as they are published, so you may want to book mark this page.
The primary subject is Signal Integrity and the book starts at the very beginning with introductory text about components and physics. I have not read these chapters so not sure how well they cover the fundamentals. The two chapters that I have access to are from the second section of the book that gets into the primary subject of signal integrity. These are chapters 9 and 10.
Some details about the book. Written by Douglas Brooks, the president of UltraCAD Design. Douglas is known for his nationwide seminars and his columns in various publications. He has a very clear presentation style that makes reading very easy and to my delight, does not get too deep into the equations, even for complex issues.
The book is 432 pages and was released at the end of 2012 by Prentice Hall. However, this is the paperback edition and the hardware cover version was originally published in 2003. There is very little in this book that will become out of date. It is available from Amazon for about $88 and second hand copies of the hardback are also available.
