I was just reading an article on Computerworld that reports on a survey done by market research firm Storage Strategies NOW of 2000 end users who were past attendees of Storage Networking World (SNW). (The survey was also co-sponsored by the Storage Networking Association.) Anyway, now that all the credits are out of the way..when asked about adopting cloud storage, here's what they said.
- 27% will adopt in six months to a year
- 22% already adopted some form of cloud storage
- 17% will adopt cloud storage in one year to 18 months
- 16% will adopt in the next six months
- 12% said 18 months to two years
(For those of you doing the math, that leaves 6% with no plans, I suppose, to adopt cloud storage.)
Why do they want to move to cloud storage? 12% wanted to use it as an offsite location for data, 16% hoped it would reduce capital expenses, 14% hoped it would reduce total cost of ownership, and 14% hoped it would improve their business 'agility.'
How about your IT department? Are you moving to cloud storage? If yes, what are you using? Sound off in the comments section below.
