@Kfield: Did you see the comment that little scamp "Truthfinder" posted on my column yesterday about the Fitbit Zip wearable electronics?

He (or she) basically called me an idiot. I don't need that (I have a wife and a mother who -- between them -- are more than capable of handling my needs in the abuse department :-)

I must admit to being a tad miffed... dare I say peeved? Just wait to you see my follow-up column, which should appear anytime soon...

Max, the cool beans are nice... keep them coming, I enjoy reading. And ignore comments from some like the one in your Fitbit article... for every one of those, there are 100 value-adding and contributing users (like to think I am one!).

Thanks for the kind words -- I do think it's nice to have something fun and interesting to take a look at, just for a few minutes now and then. And I certainly do think of you as a value-adding contributer (and not just because you say nice things about my columns LOL)

Well I need to give my vote to Caines Arcade. After working for one long summer at Mr Wizards Amusement center (an arcade with noisy pinpall and visoe games) I can really appreciate the quite of a cardboard version...

And the video was very inspiring too!!!

One of my favorite Friday past times :-) I'd have to go with the Rubiks Cube juggler with the box story a very close second.

Technion Institute (Israel's premier university)

Although it is my alma mater I thought I should point out that its full name is the Technion, Israel Institute of Technology and so only provides technical classes, akin to MIT. When I was there they didn't even have a medical faculty. Although I support that they are "premier" at what they do cover, the claim for premier university would probably be open for challenge by other universities who provide a wider and non-technical range of topics.

That video for "made of meat" made me cringe. There is a service to create these videos where you plug in dialogue and choose characters and it puts together a video like this. I can't stand them.

For a much better viewing experience try out one of these versions

I agree that these two versions are easier in the eyes (I've seen them both before), but I sort of prefer the machines to look like machines (even if one is a cardboard box LOL)

You still haven't answered the original question, which was "which video did you LIKE the best?" LOL

The others were cute and inspirational, but it's got to be "made of meat" because of the ironic nature of the conclusions for isolation.  And the clincher, "imagine how un-utterably cold the universe would be, if one were all alone" is classic.

The whole theme puts prejudice in perspective.  But then again, how can sentient meat use anything else but itself as the reference point for all experience?  We try, but perception is reality for most.

I agree. This is the sort of short story that I so wish I could write. Another (even shorter one) is Silly Asses by Issac Asimov.

Did you ever read Great Sky River by Gregory Benford. That covers our meeting up (clashing with) machine civilizations.
