I thought "joule thief or step-up" and was expecting to read about integrating a coil into the ring structure. Needing a non-metallic case, to avoid a "shorted secondary" effect.

i believe at one point I did see a ring that had a coil embedded in the ring itself to light up an LED when it was placed near a matching coil. That was pretty neat.

It's good to see students thinking of things like this and then implementing them -- maybe there is hope for the younger generation LOL

haha, I don't think there every was hope for a younger generation. Not when you were young, nor your parents before you.
