Welcome to the Pleasure Dome (My Office)

My office is in a building that's owned by a small engineering company called MaxVision. They make some mega-cool rugged transportable workstations. The guy who owns the company is kind enough to allow me to hang my (work) hat here. You can tell this is my office because of the 'MAXFIELD' doormat on the floor outside the door. Just to the right of the door we see my antique ASR-33 teletype with integrated paper tape reader/writer. On the floor just inside my office we see the backpack that accompanies me on my travels. On the right-hand wall inside the office we can see some of my bookshelves. In the middle of the picture we see the guest chair facing the outside of my desk.

@Stargzer: I have a feeling there wasn't room for the ASR-33 inside the office ...

You are correct -- the office itself is jam-packed with stuff (you should have seen it before I cleaned up LOL)

@mhrackin: ...Why is your "welcome mat" backwards?  Normally I would expect it to face the the OUTSIDE so visitors could recognize your turf!...

It does face the outside -- this picture is taken from the main bay looking into my office.

I have a feeling there wasn't room for the ASR-33 inside the office ... and he may have been displaying it to be bragging about having one!  Put some walnut panels on it and maybe some paisley wallpaper on the other parts and ... et voilà! ... Steampunk!

@stargzer:  I was fooled by the ASR33 outside; I thought that was INSIDE the door to Maxland!  I don't see much more than an outstretched arm! inside that could be Max

It IS on the outside; maybe he quickly photoshopped it?  You can see the Man With The Man-hole inside the door.

@max: I too realize this was an old post; however, it was brought (again) to my attention by @stargxer's appearance in the Most Recent Comments section.  Why is your "welcome mat" backwards?  Normally I would expect it to face the the OUTSIDE so visitors could recognize your turf!  I do assume you don't need to be reminded of your name....

@Stargzer: Yes, I have a picture somewhere, but it was before digital cameras (or at least my posession of one), so it's somewhere in an envelope of prints and film.

No worries -- we can wait (tick tock, tick tock...)

@Clarke: ...one thing I couldn't quite figure out is why you have a keyboard in front of each of the three monitors on the right side of your desk.

I realize this is an old post, but the multiple keyboard remark reminded me of long ago when the New Zealand "Big Boat," KZ-1 (the one that lost the 1988  America's Cup to the American catamaran Stars and Stripes (US-1)), came to Annaplolis, MD for a visit. It was on a barge, as were several other shacks which held computers displaying various things.  In one shack I saw a keyboard and started to laugh out loud:  it was posed in front of a microwave oven!  The flat, black glass front could pass for a monitor if you didn't notice the keypad.

Nice touch, a joke to separate the geeks from the gawkers. ;-)

In fact I have a keyboard and mouse in front of each screen -- my desk is curved and my chair spins, so I can spin back and forth between monitors to look straignt on at the one I wantto address -- having a keyboard and mouse already in front of the screen is a lot easier than dragging one around with me (or stretching back to reach a fixed one)
