It would be my greatest wish come true to see the exhibition floor at EE Live! replete with Hawaiian shirts as far as the eye can see.
Do you realize that it's close to a year since I narrowly survived a Hawaiian Shirt Catastrophe. As you may recall, in the wee hours of the morning, the shelves in our bedroom closet collapsed under the weight of my Hawaiian shirt collection.
As it turned out, this was probably for the best. For reasons unknown, Hawaiian shirts tend to shrink as the years pass by. Before you know it, none of your favorites fit you anymore. Thus it was that I ended up taking around 200 old Hawaiian shirts to my local goodwill store. All last summer, there was a noticeable increase in the number of people sporting Hawaiian shirts in the less salubrious parts of town.
On the bright side, this prompted me to start building up a new collection of Hawaiian shirts that actually fit me. Generally speaking, that's all I wear these days (well, along with jeans or shorts, of course). This means that one of my first decisions of the day is to select my "shirt du jour," which makes me happy and puts a smile on my face from the get-go.
The reason I'm waffling on about this is that, just a few days ago, EETimes member Betajet posted a comment on my blog about Bacon, Beerfest & Prognostication Engines at EE Live! In this comment, Betajet spake as follows:
Max, I have an etiquette question: would you prefer that we let you be "the guy in the Hawaiian shirt" or should we all flatter/imitate you by wearing our own Hawaiian shirts? I have a really nice one.
Well, what can I say? This brings a little tear to my eye. It would be my greatest wish come true to see the exhibition floor at EE Live! replete with Hawaiian shirts as far as the eye can see. There is, of course, no official dress code for EE Live! However, maybe we can declare Hawaiian shirts as being the official unofficial dress code. Ideally, everyone will wear Hawaiian shirts throughout the show. But if not, then at the very least it would be wonderful if everyone was sporting them at the party in the exhibition hall on Tuesday, April 1 from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
I don’t care what anyone says -- everyone looks better in a Hawaiian shirt and everyone feels happier when they are wearing one of these little beauties.
What's that you say? You haven’t got a Hawaiian shirt and you don’t know from whence one can be obtained? Oh, the humanity! Well fear not, because the guys and gals at Good Hawaiian Shirts have some corkers. So, what do you say? Are you with me?
Don't forget that EE Live! 2014 All Access passes and Engineering Summits passes are still available at the conference’s official site. Make sure to follow updates about EE Live!’s other talks, programs, and announcements on its social media accounts on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Google+.
