@Janine: ...it would be great to see some video of the smackdown after EELive, if you can manage it.

I agree -- sad to relate, my Flip Video camera recently "bit the dust" -- but I'll see what I can do :-)

@MeasurementBlues: Sorry Max, can't be on your chat. I'm having lunch with your boss.

I imagine he or she will be taking you to the nearest UBM Management Spa & Day Resort -- I hear they have them scattered across the country -- that's why it's always so difficult to get hold of them -- they say they are in meetings or on conference calls, but the rosy glow of their skin and the way they glisten (drip, in some cases) with aromatic oils tells another story....

@MeasurementBlues: A smackdown from Max, just what I always wanted.

"Hit me," begged the masochist.

"No," replied the sadist.

David Patterson, known for his pioneering research that led to RAID, clusters and more, is part of a team at UC Berkeley that recently made its RISC-V processor architecture an open source hardware offering. We talk with Patterson and one of his colleagues behind the effort about the opportunities they see, what new kinds of designs they hope to enable and what it means for today’s commercial processor giants such as Intel, ARM and Imagination Technologies.
