@Wnderer: In the US we have the World Series, where anyone from anywhere in the world can play for any team...

So long as those teams are from the USA (and Canada?) -- but not from anywhere else in the world LOL

@Wnderer: They should call it the Nationalistic Tribal Stupidity Cup...

It doesn't exactly roll off the tongue ... back to the drawing board...

" De gustibus non disPutandum est". Romans were wise enough to know that this is the beginning and the end of the discussion....

Mea culpa. I would pretend it was a typo, but unfortunately the C and the P are too far apart on the keyboard. (However I did wonder a few hours after posting that, if I had it right.)

In the US we have the World Series, where anyone from anywhere in the world can play for any team. In this so called 'World' Cup, some of the best players in the world have been excluded because they have the wrong nationality. Face it a kid from Bora Bora or some other tiny nation has a better shot of someday pitching for the New York Yankees than playing in the World Cup. They should call it the Nationalistic Tribal Stupidity Cup, because that is what it is all about. Whipping up the same emotions that have people shooting at each other all over the world. Get nationalism out of sports, art and science.

@Rishiyur: ...I will no doubt be characterized as "another American who does not understand football", even though I am not...

You are not what? Another American, someone who does not understand football, or both? LOL
