From one aspiring novelist to another - just go for it!

I had a similar idea (although not as well formed) for a story a few years ago and some friends persuaded me to partake in NaNoWriMo. I'd recomend that you check out nanowrimo.org. In addition to the main event in November, they offer other events and encouragement to aspiring writers.

To my suprise, I actually wrote a significant amount in one month but it didn't hold together. I started over the next year but still didn't end up with the story I originally wanted to tell. For the last few years I've been working on a historical novel and making some progress. A large portion is written and now needs to be edited and the large number of loose ends tied up.

I've found that getting a story written down is highly satisfying, even if it doesn't come out as you originally intended. This does remind me that I've been negligent in editing my story. Maybe I need a few more rainy days....
