I best that back in 1991 -- which was two years before the Internet went public -- the folks who came up with the larger prefixes never expected that we would be talking about using the "yotta" in anger as soon as 2017

Don't forget semiconductor magnetic bubble memory devices.

As an aside, I was once writing a test program for a small board from an aircraft that had an unusual chip package on it -- it turned out to be an 8x8 magnetic core memory in a square, chip-sized package.

The first released had disk drive was made by IBM & released in 1956, much older than 3 decades

Opps me bad you were talking about the number of vendors 30 years ago. OF course I can remember a lot of vendors that came & went in the 1980's
